A Társadalomtudományi Kutatóközpont Mesterséges Intelligencia Nemzeti Laboratórium TK MILAB Speaker Series néven indította el online rendezvénysorozatát 2021.tavaszán, melynek során online kutatásbeszámolókat, beszélgetéseket tart a mesterséges intelligencia társadalmi hatásairól. A sorozat következő állomása 2022. november 22-én 10:00 órától „Formal modeling legal concept ambiguity. Conceptualization and operationalization for testing (A jog fogalmi többértelműségének szerepe a jogi ítélkezés gyakorlatában, formális modell és alkalmazás)” címmel kerül megrendezésre.

Absztrakt angol nyelven:
We sketch a model with which the cognitive distance between concepts can be represented with quantitative means, and apply this representation to meaning variants of well-known legal concepts. The machinery allows to study the dynamics with which semantic variants of legal concepts develop, diverge, or possibly, converge in the course of their use. We phrase out hypotheses concerning this dynamics for empirical testing, and give insights on the related data-handling tasks based on data from the Hungarian legal system. The results of the current empirical phase are expected to have sociological and legal importance on their own: they can contribute to the monitoring of the legal system from the point of view of its degree of conceptual clarity/ambiguity. In the same time, the ongoing research phase paves the way for the subsequent phase of the project based on machine learning. Then, the goal is setting up the methodological background for developing AI-tools with which the bulk of legal decisions can be monitored for their increasing or decreasing ambiguity, spotting out domains that might need regulatory intervention. The presentation displays the model essentials on examples, also showing the data-handling problems and tasks we encounter in the current phase of the research.
